Introduction
Bradley Stoke Community School fully recognises its responsibility under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to work together with other agencies to ensure effective arrangements within our school to identify, assess and support children suffering from harm.
Safeguarding our school community and having a strong culture of safeguarding is paramount and is everyone’s responsibility in school. Identification processes, providing support and guidance needed (either in school or through referral to Social Care or other external agencies), and managing to safeguard at all levels are key features of our thriving safeguarding culture.
Our safeguarding curriculum (PSHE/RSHE), our response to behaviour, how we meet the needs of learners with additional needs, and spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development all help to form this foundation of safety and support.

What exactly is child abuse?
Child abuse can take a range of different forms. A child being mistreated or abused (sometimes called ‘Significant Harm’) can be defined as physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse or neglect.
Child abuse can occur at home, or in the organisations, schools or groups that the child goes to.
There are 4 major categories of child abuse:
- Physical abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Sexual abuse and exploitation
- Neglect
Staff training
We prioritise regular training and information sharing on the categories of child abuse described above and broader safeguarding issues, such as mental health, online safety, and adverse childhood experiences. Our staff receives safeguarding and child protection training as part of their induction. In addition, each year, all staff receive further focused training during INSET and read the Statutory Guidance issued to schools, “Keeping Children Safe in Education,” updated yearly. Building the skills and knowledge within our staff team to respond to concerns and to be alert to potential indicators is crucial.
Our safeguarding staff above can be reached using the main school number 01454 868 840 or by emailing admin@bradleystokecs.org.uk
