Fundraising at BSCS
We take the ‘community’ aspect of our school name seriously and aim to serve not only the Bradley Stoke community, but also the wider community and those in schools and countries that we have links to, whether through our staff and student body, or through educational links.
Students have the opportunity, as part of the Bradley Stoke Promise, to contribute to community projects and embody our expectations of ‘Being Kind’ and ‘The Best You’. Recent examples are working with The Willowbrook centre to make bug hotels for the local area, or our students supporting in local primary schools. Each December, we collect for local homeless charities and foodbanks and are always amazed by the generosity of our school community.
We have also had successful fundraising to support a wide range of causes and feel very lucky to have such a generous community of parents. All contributions regardless of size are always very much appreciated.
BSCS is committed to fundraising for many charities including Children's Hospice South West, Foodbank, Wildgoose Cafe, City to Sea, Off the Record, Sawa Sawa Academy and the MS Centre. Most recently, fundraising supported the Ben Kinsella Trust and the Luke Wheaton Legacy Trust.
Many events are held and supported by students and staff throughout the year such as non-uniform days and charity walks. Pictures of some of our fundraising events can be found across the website, but below are some from of our support of AquaAid and The Africa Trust.
Sawa Sawa
In 2016, we took part in a PE project to increase our fitness levels and raise money for our partnership school in Kenya (The Sawa Sawa Academy in Watamu). The task was for all the students at BSCS to work as a team and run the entire distance across the globe that geographically separates our schools. In 10 weeks, we managed to run 6505 miles around our Athletics track and raise over £3000 for new PE equipment to be sent to Kenya for their lessons and education.
8 years later, we went back, but challenged the school to run the distance in 24 hours…. In July 2024, we achieved this in 23 hours and 15 minutes – 26, 172 laps of the school track – and raised an amazing £2154.79. This was donated to Sawa Sawa to buy new PE equipment.
Friends at BSCS
We are fortunate to have such support from our parent/ carers who regularly support with fundraising that is used to improve our provisions in school. Primary Friends organise events across the year and our Friends at secondary phase can often be found selling refreshments at our evening events.
If anyone would like to support us in our charitable works please contact admin@bradleystokecs.org.uk.
